foto friday 6 {where i walk}

So yesterday my dear friend Kari from Thistlewood Farm posted a fun little post about where she walks … and it turns out, it was for a good cause.
I learned that one of Kari’s sisters, Whitney, (exactly how many sisters Kari has is unclear…they seem to be coming out of the woodwork these days), works for The American Heart Association and in honor of National Walking Day (April 4, 2012), they launched a contest on their Pinterest page.

All you have to do is pin a photo of where you walk and you’ll be entered for a random drawing and a chance to win one of five iPod Shuffles and a $25 iTunes Gift Card. Fun right?!?

I first showed you where I walk when I trimmed back the overgrowth as part of my little Kindness Project.  And I just so happened to be back there walking some more on Monday with my handy dandy camera.

Mico also does some swimming … and always learns the hard way that the birds are farther away than they seem.  Always!

This is also the same walk where we found the long board.  And this time we came across a bit of a ship dingy wreck.

So I suggest you all “take a hike” this weekend.  And then pin a picture of it.  🙂

If you’d like to see previous foto fridays you can check them out here, here, here, here and here.

And if you’d like to know more about National Walking Day or get tips and info for your health find your local Facebook page here: www.heart.org/swaonline or follow them on Twitter: www.twitter.com/heart_south.

Contest Guidelines

glass jar upgrade and upcycle

Hey, hey … happy hump day.

I have a fun, easy little jar upcycle for you today.  I know, I know…It’s a Cinch was SOOO last week, but easy peasy, lemon breezy projects are addicting.

The satisfaction of a completed project is so satisfying.

This is coming from a girl who has been working on a door turned something-or-other project for what…like 2 years months?!?!  It’s coming along, really it is kind of.

But my filing-cabinet-files-organization-project-turned-filing-cabinet-upgrade project has turned into a mini office organization project.  And I just so happened to have been washing out and holding onto empty glass jars without any real plan for use.

Until I thought they’d make great little office item organizers.  I just didn’t like the look of the lid threading around the top, so I wrapped and hot glued some jute.

Then I taped around each jar and used a glue stick to adhere some beach sand for additional texture.
And then, because I can’t leave well enough alone, I added a few small shells and pieces of sea glass.
I stopped that after two jars because my little supply corner was getting a bit busy for my taste.  I like the touches of color, but do love me a good monochromatic look. Especially one made with natural elements – jute and sand.

So now I have pens, pencils, binder clips, tacks, paper clips, and rubber bands in a variety of jars on my work space and newly updated file cabinet … which I am also now using as a magnet board.  Bonus!
So happy I’ve taken this baby out of the corner.  She has definitely gotten me moving on a my work space/office upgrade.

This is the first time in the over 2 years we’ve been in this house that I’m creating spaces that are bit of a reflection of me.  Jaime might even call them “Karah projects”.  They make me happy.  🙂

To see another great jar upcycle idea you need to see what Natalie did.  And, if you’ve repurposed any glass jars, I’d love if you share them here.

One more pic for fun …

Enjoy your space today!

foto friday 5 {curacao memories}

Happy Friday!

I’ve shared with you the adventures that have been my first week back from vacation here and here.  So to say I haven’t really been out and about taking pictures of my daily activity is a bit of a no brainer.

But I thought it would be fun and a welcome reason to not get back to my filing to go through the pictures from my first month or so in Curacao and show you the sites as my husband showed them to me.  We had a lot of fun just meandering all around, checking out back roads and finding hidden gems.  I hope you enjoy!

The next three pictures are in and around the quarantine house and fort that we can see from our roof.

And this shot is from a hike up Mt. Cristoffel.  We have so many little bays filled with beautiful turquoise water, they never cease to amaze me.

Now, back to filing … well, I actually think I’m going to check out more of the project inspiration linked up here first, what’s a little more procrastination, right?!?  😉

I posted on facebook that I’ve actually started a little file cabinet upgrade, of the actual cabinet itself … I’d love your guesses on what I’m doing.  Hmmmmm, what in the world could it be?!?! 🙂

Enjoy your weekend!

The Pass It On Project

Wow!  I have been waiting for this day for. like. ever!

Remember when the idea of 12 Days of Kindness literally woke me up one night?

Well, I’ve been tossing around ideas for carrying on the kindness since then.  And I came up with something I am in love with!

Update:  As everyone is posting about their projects I am adding links at the end of this post so you can all follow the journey.

I would like to first point out that the lovely Robin remembered that yesterday was not the first day I mixed up my days.

Geesh.  Who knew Thursday was going to start throwing me off so much. 😉

And head over to see her very important safety tips for this weekend.  Daylight savings weekends are a great time to make these quick checks.

Aaaand … here are a few things I saw this week …
