the month in minutes – january 2012

Hello, hello!

A little reminder, if you haven’t already linked up your blog goals, we’re keeping the party open until Thursday night for anyone getting a late start…we’d love to hear yours.  And you can find mine here.

the space between

Now, I’m going to start a little something new here today.

Can you believe this little blog had more page views in February than in its 3 previous months combined?  Serious!  That’s incredible to me.

So, I shout out a Welcome! to everyone who is relatively new around here.  Thank you so much for coming by, please make yourself at home…and let me know you’re here.  🙂

And, to everyone who has been around from the beginning…don’t think I don’t know who you are…even if you’ve never left a comment.  I sure do appreciate you all sticking around…and would love to hear what you have to say about every single post things every now and then.  🙂

In light of all of our fun new traffic I thought it makes sense to do a little month in review, if you will.  But,…I’m going to start with January…total rule breaker here.  Seems like a nice, clean, appropriate place to start, don’t you think?  And, I’ll be sure to mix in a few new things too…just to keep it fresh for ya.

So, I guess I should start by saying HAPPY New Year!  I’m sporting my party outfit and blowing my noise maker right now.  🙂  But, the girls rang in the new year looking a little more like this.

Giveaway Winner and Impossible Features

And the winner of the $50 Lowe’s gift card is…drum roll please…

Email me Michelle and I’ll get you all hooked up!

And an especially big Thank You! to One Project Closer for sponsoring the giveaway!  You guys are awesome!!

And now, my Imagine the Impossibilities Link Party Features!

To say that we were overjoyed at all of the awesome link ups we had (361 to be exact) would be an understatement.  I really can’t thank everyone who participated enough! This little impossible challenge has turned into such a wonderful adventure.  🙂

And, because there was so much awesomeness, my co-hosts and I couldn’t only feature 5 projects a piece, which was our original plan.  I will not only feature 10 great link ups here, but I will be facebooking about others and pinning some beautiful pictures throughout the week.  Hopefully we’re connected on Facebook and Pinterest so you don’t miss a thing.  🙂

And (Who says you can’t start a sentence with the word and?), don’t forget to check out who my co-hosts are featuring today!

And (Clearly, I don’t say that.), if you’ve been featured, be sure to grab a button below and brag about it.  You’ve earned it!!

Now, all I can say is, you HAVE to visit these 10 great posts.  Some are crafty, some are serious DIY, some are seemingly impossible life lessons.  And they are ALL worth a look.

I have so much I can say about why I love these posts, but you really just need to click over to check them out for yourselves.  And be sure to let them know that you saw their feature here!!

Now, let’s get to it…

Who wouldn’t want to own their house free and clear before they turn 30?  See how Abbie from 5 Days 5 Ways did it.  You’re an true inspiration Abbie!
Who doesn’t need a little group therapy when undertaking some serious DIY projects? Check out the 12 step process of This {Sorta} Old Life.
I can literally feel the love coming from this project Sarah from Adventures of Our Fami-Ly made for her nephew…makes me wish I had thought to make one for mine.
Speaking of love, who doesn’t want some secrets to long lasting love?  See how Lori from Always Learning is keeping her 31 year marriage going strong.
I seriously need to learn how to make string art, like NOW, like Zoe, the very Creative in Chicago, did.
If you’ve seen the ugliness fabulousness that is our couch set (click here or here or here if you really want another look) then you know I need to do something.  Tisha at The Delectable Home actually made a slipcover for her sectional.  Very impressive Tisha!
Want the look of a tile floor without the cost?  See how Angie from Postcards from the Ridge did it.  Have you gotten your massage yet Angie?
How about a DIY mural?  Whitney painstakingly painted an intricate peacock over at The Rooster and the Hen as part of their bathroom remodel.
Now, you can find me heading over to hang with Debbie from Refresh Restyle in her newly upgraded dock space.
And then I’m going to do some laundry get crafty with Rita at Harbour Breeze in her awesome new basement space.

Technically, that is my 10 allotted features…but I had to give a shout out to Kelly at Corner of Main…she painted the piping on her sofa (in addition to making those beautiful new pillows) and it seriously looks awesome!  I wonder what a little paint would do to the red and gold madness I currently have???

I hope you enjoy all of the projects as much as I do.

Those who’ve been featured, please don’t forget to grab a button, you’ve all inspired me greatly!

Now, let’s all visit my co-hosts to see what awesomeness they’ve featured!  Karianne at Thistlewood Farm, Linda at It All Started with Paint, Kelly at Eclectically Vintage, Andrea at The Cottage Market and Stacey at A Sort of Fairytale.

And, are we all connected on the new Linky Follower tool yet?

For an idea of where I currently do my laundry…
That would be right between our little scrap wood pile and our stove gas bottles.  The cover is to prevent sun damage (trust me, it happens) and the slanted board along the top is for rain run off.  And the weeds all around are because my husband I have gotten lazy with yard work lately.  Down right luxurious I say.  😉

Anyone else do laundry outside?

I’m a Follower

Good morning, good morning!

Man do I wish the Patriots had won yesterday.  😦

Today, for a potentially slow moving Monday for all of us football fans…and those who just love the Sunday that is the Superbowl party…I have an easy little Valentine’s Day project.

But first, for all of the bloggers…and anyone who likes to follow blogs and keep them all organized in one spot, a little word about the new Linky Follow tool that you’ll see top and right in the, well, top of my right sidebar.  🙂

I didn’t necessarily fully understand this when I jumped in the pool of blogs, but blogging is a game of numbers.

Here I thought it was game of eloquent writing, well edited photos and thoughtful topics – whatever the focus of your blog.  Believe you me, it for sure is all of these things…plus the numbers.

Before I had a blog I would read bloggers talking about different conferences they attended with seminar topics specifically about not measuring your success in numbers.  I didn’t really think too much about it pre-the space between.

But now that I am IN the space between, literally, I get it.

I started a blog because I thought it might be fun to keep a chronicle of all of the things we do in the spaces we find ourselves in.  When I think back to all of the homes we’ve had and upgrades we’ve made and projects we’ve learned how to do along the way, I’m down right bummed out that many of those things live only in memory. Memory can be so fleeting.  :/

And the response to this here blog, my friends, has been phenomenal.  I didn’t know I would get so excited when I got a new comment, or a new follower, or repin on Pinterest.

Seriously?!?  You like what you see enough to want to get a notification when I do something else (or are a blogger who knows about the numbers)?  How cool is that for this gal?  Wicked fricken’ cool I tell you!

So, when a couple of blogs announced the new Linky Follower tool I jumped right on board.  It’s easy to get signed up and totally free.

How fun to be a part of something from the very first day it was announced to the whole world. Roeshel and Cheri posted all about how to get started and are also hosting a month long Giveaway Bonanza to kick start the new tool.

If you feel so inclined, it would be super cool if you would click to follow me on the new Linky Tool…and be sure to let me know you did because I would like to follow you back.

Now, back to my lazy Monday Valentine’s Day heart idea.

Did I mention she’s FREE?  I always have that exact change in my wallet.  😉

See her snuck in the new gallery wall there?  You may recall the faux zinc letter B was there for the reveal, or maybe not, whatever. 🙂

I thought a little pop of holiday, and color, would be fun to switch in that spot throughout the year.

For all of the deets on how to make this beauty you have to head over to A Content Housewife where I’m guest posting today, while Lianne is busy moving to Charleston. Hope it’s going well Lianne!

If you missed the nitty gritty details on how this whole wall is hanging from one screw please click here.

To hang the heart, I just hot glued a length of ribbon scrap to the back and duct taped it behind the framed stencils.

To me she’s just the right amount of Valentine’s Day in our otherwise neutral colored wall.
The whole deal took about 3 hours…perfect for a lazy evening.

I happened to be watching the collapse of Kyle Stanley at Torrey Pines.  The poor guy had a 4 stroke lead on the tee at 18…and then nothing went right and he lost the tournament in a playoff.

I would gander to say my afternoon went better than his.  Sorry Kyle!

Now, don’t forget to drop in on Lianne to see some more pics and how I made the rosettes.

And, if you haven’t yet, you can click right here to get signed up to follow me in the new linky tool.

And then, have a fabulous Monday.

Oh, and I’ll be back tomorrow with the announcement of the giveaway winner and my features from the Imagine the Impossibilities Link Party…I am having a seriously hard time narrowing it down…

I am sharing this project here and at:
BNOTP, Home Stories A to Z, Savvy Southern StyleRemodelaholic, and Sugar Bee Crafts.

Imagine the Impossibilities Link Party #1!

It’s here.  The big day is finally here!  Welcome to the Imagine the Impossibilities Link Party!

First, if you haven’t entered to win the $50 Lowe’s gift card click here to get signed up.

The giveaway is sponsored by OPC.  One Project Closer maintains a very up-to-date list of Home Improvement Coupons from most of the major home improvement stores that we all love so much.  Their site is updated daily by a real person (Kim, one of the editors at OPC).  So, after you hopefully win the gift card and before heading off to Lowe’s to get all of the supplies for your next project, you should stop by OPC for a Lowe’s Coupon and save upwards of 10%.  I recommend bookmarking the page for future reference!

Boy, did this month fly by after we all decided to tackle our most daunting tasks, or what? Or, was that just my 10 day trip to Maine then 9 days of house guests, all the while trying to hang a whole gallery wall on one screw?

Yesterday I, along with my fellow challenge hosts, posted my Impossible project reveal and today is all about YOU!

Even if you haven’t completed your project, you switched projects midstream, or your project didn’t work out as planned it would be great to see you linked up.  We’d all love to learn from the journey.

And speaking of love, don’t we all LOVE comments?  Well, I sure do, so it would be super cool if you took some time to give your fellow challengers some “Hoorahs” along the way.

We’ve set up the party so you only have to link up ONCE and you will appear on the party page from each of the co-hosts blogs.  But then definitely click on my co-hosts buttons below to be sure to show them some love today on party day as well!

Then, next Tuesday, February 7th I will be posting 5 features from the party links.  AND, so will my co-hosts … that’s a total of 30 features and what’s sure to by my favorite part of this whole challenge.

I can see myself losing many hours perusing all the links and getting lost in all of your blogs…I should probably warn the hubs now.  😉  (I was going to say “warn the hubs he’s on his own for dinner this week, but that’s just setting myself up for his response of “and that’s different from any other week how???”)

On a bit of a sappy serious note.  I really can’t Thank You! all enough for participating. When Karianne from Thistlewood Farm approached me about this great idea I really had no idea what it would turn into. I couldn’t have imagined how many great blog friends I would gain, how much inspiration and support I would have received and just how much fun we would all have.  Thank you, thank you for being such a big part of it!

Update:  Party goes live at 8am Eastern time.

Now to the real business at hand this fine afternoon.  The first evah TSB giveaway, sponsored by OPC!  I am down right giddy about this giveaway.

In no small part due to the fact that I have a love affair with Lowe’s!  Well, in my mind, I actually have a love affair with this guy.

Seriously, could I be standing any closer to him???  🙂

He’s Chad Knaus and he’s the crew chief for the NASCAR team sponsored by Lowe’s.  Due to our long standing love affair with him this NASCAR team, my husband and I have become so brand loyal to Lowe’s it’s just a teensy bit scary.

Friday Features!

TGIF!  Although, I was just reminded that I have signed up for an 8k road race on Sunday and I still don’t have the whole gallery wall hung yet.  :/

No matter what, I (along with all of my challenge co-hosts) will be posting my big reveal on Monday morning.  I’m just not exactly sure what I’ll be revealing just yet.  Sigh.

AND, Monday will be home to two firsts here at TSB …

I will be publishing a Monday afternoon post – 1st time for 2 posts in 1 day because …

Monday afternoon will be the very first TSB GIVEAWAY!  It’s a $50 gift card to Lowe’s so you will want to be sure to come back and give yourself a chance to win!

Then Tuesday is the Imagine the Impossibilities Progressive Link Party!  We all go live at 7am eastern time, I am sooooo looking forward to seeing what everyone has accomplished.  Down right giddy I tell ya.

Now, let’s take a look at some of those projects in progress, shall we?!?

Pamela over at Pink Hammers and Sippy Cups had plans to tackle the art of baking pretzels as her challenge.  Then a little bit of life happened and she has a whole new, much more challenging, project she NEEDS to tackle.  Here’s a sneak peak of one of her inspiration pics, but you have to click here to find out her big news.
Suzy over at Saved by Suzy decided to tackle organizing a few closets and her pantry for this challenge and she is making awesome progress.  She may have had to toss some pantry items that were 5 years old, but it’s now looking like this, with some empty shelves and all.
She still has her master bedroom closet to finish.  Be sure to click here to read all about her progress.

Now, have you ever been all gung ho on a room redo and then kind of get. stuck. in. the. middle. of. it?  You either lose inspiration or motivation or just move on to other things? That is exactly what happened to Kristi over at Addicted 2 Decorating with her hallway. She bought a new washer and drier, and they didn’t fit…she installed floor tile, but never got around to the little annoying pieces you have to cut to size…she even hung a light fixture with a little help from some painters tape which has apparently reached it light hanging shelf life.  Take a look at the space here and see all of the little details she is going to finish as part of this challenge.
Kayla at Sweet Anne went through a few one hour photo learning curves to get her wedding photos printed for her wedding scrapbook she is tackling for this challenge.   Let’s just say it took way more than an hour!  But she has made great strides since then.  Check out this page she made from scratch, including the cut out embellishments.
To see more of her fun details you have to click here.

And, Zoe at Creative in Chicago is tackling a project I might just have to try sometime soon … string art.  Check out her template, she made all on her own.  I really cannot wait to see how this turns out.  I can just tell it’s going to be fabulous!  Be sure to read how she got this far here.
Lizzie from Pretty City Things has run into a little bit of a road block reupholstering her chair (I can TOTALLY relate, says the girl with the 8 year old reupholstering project … more on that here).  But, check out the beautiful fabric she is working with here.  And give her some moral support while you’re there!

If you’ve missed any of my pathetic gallery wall updates along the way check them out here and here.  And be sure to check in with my co-hosts to see what they’ve been up to. Kari from Thistlewood Farm, Kelly from Eclectically Vintage, Linda from It All Started With Paint, Stacey from A Sort of Fairytale and Andrea from The Cottage Market.

It’s the final weekend of the challenge?  Are you in?  Are you making progress?  Are you happy to be watching from the sidelines?  😉
